The central panel was painted by Gerard David and represents the transfiguration of Jesus. Moses and Elias surround the glorified Christ and his Father who rules the universe in a grand italianising environment. At the foot of the mountain are the apostles. The side panels were painted in 1573 by Pieter Pourbus. They present the clients (Anselmus de Boodt and Johanna Voet) with their children and on the back in a grisaille their respective patron saint (the holy Anselm and St. John).
