This painting illustrates the influence that the Flemisch Primitives exerted on their Spanish contemporaries. The hitherto anonymous master was recently identified as Alvaro Sánchez an artist active in Valadolid within the entourage of the 'Catholic Kings' Ferdinand of Aragon and Isabella of Castile.
