About this artwork

Christ stands in the middle and answers the question of a Pharisee as to whether to pay the Emperor taxes with the words: "Give to the emperor what belongs to the Caesar and to God what belongs to God" (Luke 20 2126). (entry no. 84) Presentation of the Gospel text (Matthew 172427) where Peter takes a medal from the mouth of a fish to pay toll for him and Christ. (entry 85) Presentation of the Gospel text (Mark 21 4144) where Christ tells his disciples that the sacrifice of the poor widow has more merit than that of the rich lady. (entry No. 86) Grisaille. Abraham weighs the 400 shekels of gold the price for the field with a cave as cemetery for Sara. Sara's body is transferred in the background. The original central panel is located in the KMSKA. Under the KMSKA collection we have included an image of this loose panel as well as a montage of the original panel in the triptych shown here in the Sint Andrieskerk.
